Swami Vivekananda (Narendranath Datta; 1863-1902) — Sri Ramakrishna's disciple — after his 1893 Chicago World Parliament of Religions historic address, on his return to India in 1897, on 4 March 1897 purchased ~16 hectares / 40 acres of land on the west bank of the Hooghly; on 9 December 1898 he installed the relics of Sri Ramakrishna, dedicating the math.
