कथा, इतिहास एवं महत्व

The three-murti svayambhu emergence narrative

Per tradition, in a dense forest between two Aravalli hills, a Puri-sampradaya sadhu received a vision in which three murtis (Sri Balaji + Sri Pretraj Sarkar + Sri Bhairav Baba) emerged self-manifested from a single rock — a traditional narrative (official source shribalajimehandipur.org; not authoritatively historically dated to a century). The Bala-Hanuman svayambhu form is central.

The Mahant lineage (Puri sampradaya)

Brahmleen Sri Ganesh Puri Ji Maharaj — the mid-20th-century reconstructor; 1965 CE management transfer. Successor: Brahmleen Sri Kishore Puri Ji Maharaj. Current Mahant: 1008 Sri Dr. Naresh Puri Ji Maharaj (assumed charge 21 August 2021; official-source confirmed).

The Arzi-Savamani ritual narrative (neutral reporting — religious-ritual description level)

Arzi (petition): 2.25 kg urad dal + 1.25 kg laddu + 4.25 kg boiled rice — presented separately for Sri Pretraj Sarkar and Sri Bhairav Baba (Kotwal). Darkhvast: laddus purchased from temple shops, handed to the priests; the priests place portions in the homa fire to 'announce' the devotee's presence. Savamani (1.25-maund bhog): after wish-fulfilment, a large bhog offering on Tuesdays/Saturdays. All of these are the temple's own tradition rituals.

The unique prohibition traditions narrative (temple's own tradition)

Per temple tradition: do not take prasad/laddu-batasha home (must be consumed at the temple); do not look back when leaving the temple; do not speak to or touch other devotees (per tradition, some devotees may be in an affected state); do not carry cooked or packaged food past the village boundary (empty bottles/packets must be left at the village line); meat/onion/garlic forbidden before, during, and for a few days after the visit; meat sale is forbidden in Mehandipur village; black clothing forbidden; modest attire (kurta/salwar) recommended.
