कथा, इतिहास एवं महत्व

Mudgala Purana

Siddhatek is included in the enumeration of the eight kshetras; the narrative of Vishnu's tapasya is given here

Ganesha Purana

At the dawn of creation, while Vishnu lay in yoga-nidra Brahma emerged on a lotus from his navel; from dirt in Vishnu's ear the demons Madhu and Kaitabha arose and disturbed Brahma's creation; Vishnu fought them for 1,000/5,000 years without success; Shiva advised that Vishnu had begun the fight without invoking Ganesha; Vishnu performed tapasya on the Siddhatek hillock chanting 'Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah'; Ganesha appeared and bestowed siddhi; Vishnu returned and slew Madhu-Kaitabha. 'Siddhi' + 'tek' (hillock) = Siddhatek.
